The voice you can trust always sounds like love.

Waking Up Alone is
part memoir, part map:

a vulnerable, fiercely honest exploration of what it means to awaken as a Black woman born into a nation rooted in complex trauma; a nation in which limiting stories about race, gender, and spiritual awakening capture the collective consciousness.

Hi, I’m Nicole.

I’ve been you. Afraid. Confused. Caught in self-doubt. Trying hard to get it right. Walking in circles, intending to make a straight line. Twisting myself into unnatural shapes, hoping for acceptance, belonging, and comfort.

As a trauma survivor and a trauma therapist, my experience is that trauma creates a confusing mess in the mind and body. Feeling lost and believing we are broken, it is easy to seek something outside ourselves to show us the way. It’s easy to miss the fact that what we need most is not another person’s truth but our own. We need to reconnect with our own knowing; to rest into an experience of deep self-acceptance and Love.

But how do we find this knowing? Where is this Love?

There are many ways up the mountain, but the one I am offering here is spirited. In our work together we will lean into your spiritual resources, and practice resting into Presence. We will practice uprooting the internal oppressor by resting our attention out of the conditioned mind, and working with the patterns of thought, sensation, and behavior that cause you harm. We will utilize guided mediation and body-based exercises to calm the nervous system. We will practice resting with sensation and listen for the still, small voice that always feels like love.

I am here to walk beside you, to offer you a set of practices that point you back into yourself, to listen for a Love that holds you sacred, just as you are now. Like a butterfly emerging from her cocoon, we are in a natural process of transformation. Our work is to surrender and to collaborate with this awesome transformation.

SO grateful to be waking up alone, together.

Nicole
